Bicycle Times, New Album (Uncloudy Day), The Road
by jay lappGreetings from the great Mid-West!….
We just finished up a fantastic tour with shows in North Carolina (Ocracoke Island), Kentucky, Missouri, and Kansas. Thanks to all our new friends and fans that we’ve had the pleasure of meeting or at least seeing bopping heads in the audience!
The Steel Wheel Duo gets covered in “Bicycle Times” Issue #6. We are proud to let you know that we got a great feature article in the newest issue of Bicycle Times! The story covers our first SpokeSongs Bicycle Music Tour in late Fall of 2009 and has some sweet pics as well. The magazine is available at a number of stores including Barnes and Noble and also online HERE.
“Uncloudy Day officially released” Yes, it is true! While we have not made a big release of this album yet, it is definitely OUT. Click here to purchase
Recording this album as a duo is something that we’ve talked about for awhile but knew that it would eventually just “happen”. This recording is dedicated to our Grandfathers, and some of the tunes, in particular “Uncloudy Day” and “I Shall Not Be Moved” have personal meaning and affection. The only way to record this album was to do it completely live with no over-dubbling. To give you a backdrop for how this album came to be, goes as so. We do acting work at times with friend and fellow artist Ted Swartz (Ted & Co.) . In early September 2009 we were working with Ted in Pennsylvania at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School, performing “What Would Lloyd do?” and “St. John’s Revival”…Two stage plays that compliment each other and weave together drama and music, poignancy and satire. Ted has an amazing gift in acting, writing and bringing people together with his original works and in turn encouraging what we do with our music. With an understanding about creativity, workspace and opportunity we found ourselves with three evenings free at a high school with a stunning, great sounding auditorium. For these nights we recorded on the stage with the lights dim, as we called out tunes around a single microphone. At the start of this project we weren’t sure if we would release the recording, but upon first listen to the playback we felt compelled to release “Uncloudy Day”. See you down the road. -The Steel Wheels
